Six seek Miss La
Crosse/Oktoberfest crown

Six woman will compete
for the title of Miss La
Crosse/Oktoberfest at 7
p.m. Saturday at Viterbo
University’s Fine Arts
Center.
The contestants are:
Hannah Appleton,
daughter of Ray and
Joyce Appleton. She
attends the University
of Wisconsin-La Crosse
and will sing “Via
Dolorosa.” Her platform
is “Abstinence: You’re
Worth Waiting For!”
Katie Ekern, daughter of
David and Mary Ann Ekern.
She is a graduate of
Western Technical
College and will sing “I
Can’t Do It Alone.” Her
platform is “Give a
Child a Smile.”
Gina Gentry, daughter of
Cheryl and Brian Gentry.
She attends Viterbo
University and will
perform a jazz dance to
“What a Feeling.” Her
platform is “Building a
Better Self-Esteem.”
Brianna Herber, daughter
of Paul and Patty Herber.
She attends Viterbo and
will perform a color
guard routine to songs
from “Miss Saigon.” Her
platform is “Alcohol
Abuse Awareness.”
Megan Kublank, daughter
of Kathleen and Robert
Kublank. She attends
UW-L and will perform
ballet en pointe to “Danse
Espagnole” from “The
Nutcracker.” Her
platform is “Adaptive
Sports for People with
Disabilities.”
Jenna Mills, daughter of
Judy and Steve Mills and
David and Brenda
Sobkowiak. She attends
Western and will perform
a jazz dance routine to
“Think.” Her platform is
“Breast Cancer
Awareness.”
Contestants will vie for
more than $12,000 in
scholarships.
The event’s theme is
“Big City Lights,” with
2008 Miss La
Crosse/Oktoberfest Mandy
Nogle performing and
Miss America 1987 Kellye
Cash as emcee.
