Medallion Found

By Samantha Marcus

At about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the ground team for “The All-Nighters” found the Oktoberfest medallion near the gazebo in Pettibone Park.

Jenny Jacobson and Stacey Roraff said they were among 20 to 30 people combing the park Tuesday evening when they made the discovery.

True to the clues, the medallion was beneath a park bench near the eight-sided gazebo in the Pettibone. Tuesday’s clue was the ninth released, marking it the longest running medallion hunt in history, fest officials said.

Jacobson said she almost mistook the silver medallion for a pop tab tucked under brush and leaves.

Their team of eight people spent about 15 hours at the library and about 90 hours total hunting for the medallion, Roraff said.

“I probably got seven hours of sleep total this week,” Roraff said.

The team was at Pettibone day-in and day-out since Friday, she said.

“We knew it was there,” she added. “There was no doubt.”

In addition to Jacobson and Roraff, “The All-Nighters” include Tanya and Brandon Henke, Briana Clipper, Rhonda Boardman, Jeremie Ghelfi and Scott Roberts.

They’ll split the prizes, including $500 cash, gift certificates from local businesses and tickets to the Festmaster’s Ball, though Roraff said she has her eye on the Festmaster tickets.

“It was definitely worth it,” regardless of the prizes, Jacobson said of the time spent searching, “just the fact that we found it.”
