button design
revealed
By Anne Jungen
.
Lorie Oldenburg
had entered once
before, but the
second time was
the charm.
Her design was
chosen from more
than 70 for the
47th annual
Oktoberfest
button, unveiled
Thursday at
Copeland Park.
The design
features a
collection of
past buttons
spilling from a
barrel, with
this year’s
theme — “A
Harvest of
Memories” —
spanning the
center.
“There is no
better way to
represent the

than with
the buttons,”
said Oldenburg,
a graphic
designer from La
Crescent, Minn.
Oldenburg called
the weeks she
spent designing
the button “a
labor of love,”
and added it is
“a big honor”
for her design
to be selected.
“It’s quite a
good button for
this year’s
theme,” said
Oktoberfest
President Ed
Przytarski.
Oldenburg wins
$100, two
tickets to the
Festmaster’s
Ball and a
commemorative
collector’s
plate.
The buttons will
cost $5 in
advance or $7 at
the gate.
Oktoberfest is
Sept. 28 to Oct.
